I agree. First I have to thank Twisted Canuck for introducing me to it a few months ago here. I bought a bottle for a milestone birthday and have been hoarding it since. I got it in Calgary at Wine and Beyond for $109.00.
Once in a while a treat is nice.

I have a couple of part bottles free to whoever wants to pick them up in Beaumont. Need to go to somebody who will enjoy them. I've found my stomach just can't handle the heavier drinking whiskeys, although I've tried, oh lord how I've tried, lol. I guess I just have to stick to the smoother drinking choices.
Anyways, these are both nice whiskeys, just not my thing.
There's an Octomore 6.3 (64%) and a Springbank Single Cask (cask strength @ 58.1%), both between 1/2 and 2/3 full. These aren't for the weak of heart (or stomach evidently). I don't want anything for them, just for them to be enjoyed. As mentioned, pick-up in Beaumont, first come first served. Don't mind all the creamy crap in the back ground, lol, it's coffee creamer on cold mornings.

A huge Thank You to Big Racks! Took the opportunity to meet up with him as I happened to be in Edmonton, and took grateful possession of that fine fire water he was offering. Was a pleasure to meet you! Some day, as time and distance permits, I look forward to returning the favour and pouring you a fine dram of something that won't put you off as that smoke and peat seems to. Yup, got home safe, drove nice and civil and no tickets, but couldn't believe how much bug juice got all over the car. Big nasty yellow streaks!! My son washed and waxed it already though, ready for some cruising!

Has anyone tried the new Macallan 12 y/o triple cask? I have tried the new(ish) Macallan 12 y/o double cask and it was quite pleasant.

I have, an it's a decent whisky at the price. I'm still bitter with them for cancelling the fine oak series though.
I tried an absolutely amazing whiskey a week ago at a tasting. If I poured you some and told you it was an 18 year old Port finished Glendronach cask strength you would say 'wow!! One of their best!'.
But it wasn't Glendronach. Or even scotch. It was Kavalan. We tried the port cask, Vinho barrique, and peaty cask...they were all outstanding. They were all 5 years old if I remember correctly. And they are distilled in.......TAIWAN!! They have won a ton of awards, and I'd never heard of them. Needless to say, a half dozen bottles are now mine (some on backorder).
I guess the tropical climate ages the whiskey in the cask at something like a 3-1 ratio compared to scotland, where the weather is best described as '****e'...so that explains why it was so mature. Too bad it's kind of pricey, because it is stupidly good!

I have been hearing good things about the Kavalan line... One of these days I am going to have to give it a try! I have a hard time wrapping my head around it but the word is it's pretty fantastic.
I just picked up a Glenfarclas 21 I am looking forward to getting to know!

As a die hard single malt scotch guy, I can tell you it rocked my universe...but the Kavalan is amazing, top shelf, and you just need to accept that it comes from the Orient! I would suggest you find a bottle of the sherry cask, or the Vinho barrique (they use a California red cask). Be prepared to drop $250 or so, and make sure you get the Solist line (cask strength)...I neglected to mention that in previous post.
I'm almost ashamed by how much I like it....enjoy that glenfarclas. It's a beauty too!

Love my scotch and have a reasonable collection. Having said that, I really like a good Irish Whiskey as well. I had purchased and drank a couple of bottles of Kilbeggan 18 year old from Metrovino here in Calgary and enjoyed it very much. They have since ran out for over a year and are unable to get it. Craig went above and beyond and found a bottle at Coop wine and spirits, so I have an unopened bottle that I'm hoarding. If anyone sees another somewhere, let me know please!  Craig says that the only ones he knows of are at Heathrow. I'm sure there's a few hiding out there somewhere.

Just finished a bottle of Glenfiddich that a buddy of mine bought at an estate sale. I'm guessing 60's. It's an (was) an 8 year old and magically delicious!

That's a good one to mention, I picked up a couple bottles yesterday at that price...then I felt set free to drink the last two inches of the bottle I bought 3 years ago! It's a great price.
Tonight I think I'm going to have some oban 14...

As for myself I'm enjoying some Japanese Whisky tonight. Specifically Nikka Pure Malt Taketsuru Whisky. A mouthful of a name and a palate-full of flavor!
Apparently, Masataka Taketsuru is the father of Japanese whisky. He honed and mastered his skills in Scotland and brought them back to Japan. He established the Nikka distillery in 1934.
Oh boy, is the bottles' label ever informative!

I dug into the back of my cupboard and found a forgotten treasure to finish off the evening while watching the Flames beat the hateful Canucks...the 2014 Laphroaig Cairdeas (pronounced car-chase, Gaelic baffles me!)...Anyway, it's this guy, and it's a sweet, fruity, smokey, peaty delight! I had bought a couple of them, and I guess I have still 3/4 of a bottle to enjoy now and then. Nice find!

Honesty would compel me to go with the second... !
But it is always great to find a bottle of something that is unobtanium, when you have been hoarding the last two inches of your bottle for 3 years. I'm still tickled that I have a virgin bottle of Scapa 16 that I found in Florida with a half inch of dust on it! Now when I finally finish the hoarded bottle off, I won't be nearly as sad....

I decided to pick up a nice bottle since it's Friday and I've been a good boy this week. Talisker Port Ruighe aged in port casks for the finish. An excellent flavor profile and smell, as with any Talisker the essence of the sea is in it too! Overall an excellent scotch.
