I think tomorrow could very well be one of the worst days in the markets ever. Oil collapsing is the straw that broke the camels back. Not good. Not good at all.

Brace yourselves. All that toilet paper everyone has been buying can be used to wipe the tears away as well as the mess in your trousers when you realize how much you've lost on your investments. Glad I bailed.

I wish luck to everyone in the ride that's about to happen. Here's hoping that when it's over, it leaves everyone in a place they are comfortable.
There will be winners and losers. I hope everyone can use some tact over the next while.

If you've done nothing till now ... you have to look at it as it's all on paper and just ride out the storm.

Best of luck next week ... unless you still own that gold mine in the YK.

D.

As of March 08th ....

EDIT: .... still in Palm Springs for another month, on tonight's news they said the first C-Virus case was reported in Rancho Mirage, sure got the locals excited, the entire Coachella Valley is one big community nursing home.

Things will work out people. The markets will recover after a crash. They always do. Only thing that concerns me is the USA in this virus. States not at all prepared and look who is president lol

I’m waiting for the markets to drop some more.
Below 22,000 on the Dow and 2,000 on the S&P 500.
That’s where the real fun begins.

If a person has their investments in a robo-advisor platform like wealthsimple and its all in CASH at the moment, what would be a good risk profile to get back in the market at when it reaches bottom?

A 9 or 10 (portfolio made up of various ETFs and no bonds) risk profile to capitalize on equity growth when the market recovers? Or a balanced portfolio of 60/40 weighting?

If a person doesn’t follow it closely, and can’t value a company. Their best bet is to dollar cost average the S&P 500 or Dow Jones Index fund. I would take your age and substract it from 100 to figure out how much to keep in cash, and how much to invest. The number you come up with is the percentage you invest in the index fund. The rest just leave in cash given the return on bonds, the liquidity of cash is worth more. If you really want to have it invested somewhere safe maybe a GIC.

I don’t try and time the markets. Or even pay much attention to the news.
Too much static. I have my own indicators and strategy that works for me and
allows me to sleep at night. Is it always right? No, not even close, but more often than not, and I am happy with that.

This to will pass.
When you think I’ll never put a penny in the markets, that’s when you want to buy.

With what happened with oil overnight, futures were stopped out. Look for limiters on the market to be used today. Rethinking that 22,000 -23,000 to possible sub 20,000. Ugly is an understatement.......

Falling markets are opportunities when they fall below their intrinsic value with a margin of safety added. Plus falling energy prices are stimulative at some point too.

So those who sold high and are sitting on a lot of cash now will eventually start licking their lips.

Too bad though that most asset classes and equity markets allowed themselves to be pumped up to such extreme valuations. Bursting bubbles are always very ugly to those taking the massive hits.

The Dow opened down 1800, and the TSX down 1400, this is looking even worse than most people expected.

People love market interference on the downside.

I wonder if the Roaring 20s are already over. :-)

Actually in the early 1920s there was a quick short market dip (recession) then a recovery into the insanity of the real “Roaring ‘20s” before the 1929 crash. Maybe history will repeat itself.

Many will need therapy during this and probably after, so it looks like they are on top of it.
Look at this guy though, it appears he is on top of it too:

I agree. Once the pandemic has passed the markets will gradually settle and there will be buying opportunities (they may however look completely different than what we lost money on at this point in time).
