Default Carolina Rig?

I know I have been asking lots about fishing rigs. Here is one more for you. When I am using Carolina rigs for pike and walleye do I use a regular hook, floating jig or sinking jig? Which one works best? I will be using it with smelts.

are you from carolina? the in-fisherman site is under going maintenance right now. once it gets back up fully visit it and search "fishing with a lindy rig"
