Default Bull elk poached in WMU 166

Turns out some people are truly despicable. 8 bull elk were shot on the south east corner of the rumsey grazing lease yesterday. The worst part is that the heads were cut off and the bodies were left to the coyotes. If anyone has any information or was hunting northwest of the blue sky colony in the past 2-3 days and saw any vehicles and could provide a description please DM me.

Default contempt

There is very often a C.O. at the gate . Unfortunately not this time. These people need to be caught and punished , then call the authorities . Disgusting waste of resource and life

There needs to be some meaningful consequences in these cases, loss of vehicles, firearms etc, huge fines, and for repeat offenders prison time.

5 trucks impounded is a good start, now confiscate guns as well, sounds like an organized poaching ring, I'm sure once the names come out they will not be first time offenders. Time to make an example of these guy's so hopefully not just the slap on the wrist treatment.

Some people are just kill crazy. Don’t understand how someone can do that and still live with themselves.

It is difficult to ask someone to respect others including wildlife when they don't respect themselves. Loss of all items used in this egregious act should be confiscated and any charges that can be levied should be levied.

Exactly. Big fines and no light weight "2 year hunting suspension" or slap on the wrist. Once they are convicted AB should co-ordinate with Wildlife Officials in the other Cdn provinces so they can not ever purchase a licence anywhere in Canada.
Poaching is for scumbags , leaving the meat of 8 Elk........well the bastards should be horse whipped.

It’s a gong show on a good day in hunting season in and around that place but this takes the cake. When something like this happens it is a black eye for everyone. The media will paint all hunters with the same brush as poachers and everyone looses opportunities in the future. There is more of this stuff happening than one would like to believe especially in the east country. The book needs to be tossed at these guys. No apologies and no excuses. If you want to just pull the trigger go shoot gophers but usually people that do this kind of stuff are borderline dangerous.

Disgusting.

We already know that they don't have any regard for the law, so a license suspension is useless.
Confiscate anything used that day and fine them each $100,000 or 18 months in jail with no parole.
That should be a good start.

If its "privileged" shooters, I won't call them hunters, we all know how far the restitution side will go.

People like that don't need to appear in front of a judge, they need to be taken out and beaten to within an inch of their lives.

Crime against nature in the worst way . Which ever group of people who did this should be jailed , tard and feathered . Fines ,trigger finger removed and never aloud to drive or hunt in Canada .

These guys are not hunters they have no value for any life of any kind . I hope they get caught and there face is posted in every news outlet around.

Who ever did this is sending a clear message to all who love to hunt legally.

If the names are released, I would be surprised if the scumbags don't have a record of some kind.

They need to throw the book at them. Start putting out a message. These scum bags don't seem to be worried about consequences.

I really don't think the amounts you specified are enough. Should be $750,000.00 or 10 years with no eligibility for parole or reduced sentencing for time served. These waste of breathes are stealing from all Albertans.

This was my first thought as well. Punishment will depend on who did it .

Could there possibly be a reason for it?
Example someone found a elk that someone else wounded and died. When other hunters found carcass the meat was no good so they salvaged the horns? Maybe wolves killed the elk and someone just found it?
I have no idea who or what happened but maybe there is some other story?
