In all my 40 years of hunting I cannot think of any time where a tracking dog was needed.

Must be lots of poor shots taken I guess.

I’m all for using a dog to track your wounded game but with a permit issued from local CO in case there is an issue and you should have to forfeit your tags if you fail to recover the wounded animal.

You have to tag your animal as soon as you find it… so using a dog and coming back later would also be illegal.

There is plenty out there taking poor shots sadly. I have worked with and spoken to too many hunters that “miss” multiple times every year before taking their deer. November long weekend around here it is common to hear guys out by the road letting loose everything they have at running deer. There is plenty of those who believe in the theory if there is lead in the air they have a chance

Should be a canceled tag loosing an animal dog or not.

Needs some cold weather to improve movement so I am not bored on stand contributing to this go no where mess lol

It’s not surprising that there is wounded game. How many guys do you see out hunting without binoculars and no shooting sticks or bipod.

Lots out there like that. It’s unfortunate all the carcasses I find after the madness is over. I always mark the ravens when I see them congregating and go looking after the season.

Not to get too technical, but the season technically closes as of the end of daylight on the last day so going after it that evening or night would be hunting in a closed season. When I use my dog to recover game that I knew was dead. I don’t want any human tracks for her to follow. I don’t feel I was doing anything wrong. Certainly an officer is allowed to charge me if he thinks there’s wrongdoing, but I believe he would end up looking silly in front of a judge.
I believe that trying to be sneaky and pretend your bird hunting Or just walking your dog but actually looking for a wounded animal is questionable. I certainly wouldn’t judge that because I think it’s OK. Bottom line, if an officer decides to charge you, he is welcome to do it, but he is certainly not the judge
