X2!
So great to see the kids doing so well. Good mentoring, for sure!
Was pretty excited to tag along for my son's buck this weekend. And I was especially happy to witness his buddy's first ever buck as well!
Even with a lot of hunter pressure in the area we were in, it was encouraging for us to have some great encounters. One wily buck was giving us such a run-around, I just had to laugh.
Had deer pass within a few paces of me in the wide open. Just love it.

We went out on Monday. Drove around, walked around for the best part of the day. Saw one group of whites but didn’t have a chance to shoot. And just about at the last 15 minutes on our way out we came upon a field with two deers grazing and not paying any attention on us…. We parked the truck and walked back to the field, hiding in the ditch so they didn’t see us at all! Two shots rang at the same time, the buck and the doe ended their day not the way they expected….6,5 Creed( buddy’s) and 7-08( mine) one shot each. They run 20 yards max. We found the buck right away but couldn’t find the doe. We were 300 yards from the road, brought the truck back and grabbed the flashlight… took us 30 minutes to find her. She was FAT!!! Didn’t have time to take any pics in the field, got too dark. But got one at the buddy’s shop.

Meet taco or I should say meat for taco’s.
Rattled this beast in earlier this morning and all fell into place, well sorta, punched him clean through at 75 yards with the old 1915 BSA sht le III, had a goal this year to only carry this fine shooting iron and well even over a century old she still does the job fine!
Well the buck had other ideas and even after I waited 30 minutes I found him only to have one last mad dash in him and as he went by at 10 yards I folded him with the 303 and he did a summersault coming to his final resting spot.
A few tools of the trade.
Good time to use the one of a kind folder.
The start of the gutless method, quad sure makes life easier and the sled brings home the meat!
Good day to be in the outdoors.

I tend to never post pictures but I enjoy everyone else's so I'll jump in.
My hunting partner takes terrible field pictures but here's the mulie buck I got this year in 305. Saw lots of bigger ones in archery season but wanted to make sure my partner got his tag filled too and I found this one to be acceptable.
My buck here next to my hunting partner's, it's his first ever after 5 years of hunting so I don't think he'd be any happier if he shot a world record buck.
My daughter is pretty pleased with it and she seems to think antlers are about the coolest thing ever. It's a long way out but I'm already looking forward to the 2035 season when she's old enough to be on the trigger.

Now that's a long rage forecast Koschenk! Seeing the little ones in the pics is wonderful, man. Glad your buddy scored and you've set up some super memories to come with your little girl. Beautiful!

Awesome, Koschenk! Great on you for helping your buddy out. It's so rewarding to help a new hunter get their first.
And your daughter - She'll be hunting with you in no time at all! It goes quick.
I took my kids out as often as I could, which IncrediGirl really appreciated.
First, it gave her a much-needed break from the kids.
And she also didn't mind the fact that I couldn't be as stealthy with them in tow, so I usually came home empty-handed. But, fresh air, great memories and fun was had!

My submission for the ugly rack competition!
I sat down on a random spot on a cut line at 9:30, did one doe bleat and I could hear him walking towards me within 2 minutes. He stepped out into the clear at 40 yards. I saw 3 points on one side and a big brow tine on the other so I knew it was mature and that all I was looking for.
As he died he smashed the left antler on a tree, dinting the tree and breaking the point. I found part of it in the leaves. The left is also missing the brow tine. On the right he’s missing the first 2 points and there is hair lodged in the break, must have been while fighting. He had surprisingly little fat. I’m wondering if age was starting to get to him, maybe poor nutrition lead to the breaks and the lack of fat.

Shot him today around 10ish
Walked down to the South fence of our farm and spotted 2 does in our second quarter so I made my way to the cross fence as slowly as I could and glassed them again. 2 does made me wonder if a buck was near by so I dropped my pack and sat down. One kept looking into the willows so I decided to grunt a couple times and out came a buck. Alright ranged around 460-470. I picked my pack up and rested on it and the first time I went to shoot *click* oh right because I use a Kifaru gun bearer I walk with an empty chamber so I don't unavlive myself by accident with the muzzle right by my face. Okay chamber a round and he's back in the willows. Waiting and waiting grunt some more the does are making their way to the fence. Finally he comes out and he gets to the fence and I missed but he went back into the willows. Chamber another and wonder if he'll come back to cross... yup "oh there he is" I thought and I shot and watched him fall in my scope. The benefit of a light recoiling 6.5 creedmoor.
450 yard shot, sitting resting on my exo pack. I hit him in the neck, I must have pulled a little as I was aiming for his chest but he's dead. Shooting factory barnes lrx 127gr chono'd at an average of 2830fps muzzle.
123gr remain and the bullet tumbled as you can see in the photo and it expanded some but not a lot. I could John Wick this deer with a pencil.... that's the size of the hole through the neck.
I wanted to shoot something at distance and I've been practicing all summer and fall and I'm happy with the result.

That’s a great sized body on that buck.
Yes the Barnes bullets like speed to open up for sure. Glad they did the job effectively! Great work, and such a great time of year to be out, as you never know what the bucks are gonna do.

Well done Dirtshooter!
If you put a vernier to that bullet I bet you will find that it did in fact expand quite a bit!

Helped the local farmer friend thinning deer that are raiding his grain dryer. While working on her, a little buck came to check me out , and 30 mins after that a nice 4x5 with height walked out. Always tomorrow.
This rifle shoots tipped fusions and berger hybrids the same poi to a decent distance. So wanted to see what the Bergers can do for myself. Although I was impressed with results of a quartering away shot, placed behind leg... i really couldnt aee using them for more than deer and blackbear. Even out of a magnum offering. The 270win 140gr berger hybrid did pass through. But holy potatoes. Looks like a pencil hole in hide in pic but the meat side is almost a twoonie. Exit carnage about 2.5 inch hole. Missed heavy bone on way out

Went out this afternoon with my friend, I wasn't feeling it but decided not to be a big baby. Glad I went. Got in my stand on treeline around 3, looking into the sun. This guy showed up at 4:20 hot after a doe.
I held off till she had him right in front of me at 250 yards. A bit of a case of mistaken identity, I've been gunning for an older buck with more mass that I've been watching for 2 years, but the same rack. Sun was in my face, glassed him and counted points and thought he was my guy. But really, I wouldn't have passed even if I'd recognized he wasn't the bigger guy. Perfect hit with the .338 Federal, he didn't go 10 steps. We had him at the butcher an hour and 20 minutes after I dropped him. Nice to not track, just drive up and get him in the truck after a quick dress. He taped at 154 3/4"
Shot him from treeline behind me in picture.
