Hunting access

Getting a phone call for permission to hunt my land or leases is same as getting a phone call from telemarketers. Everyone hates telemarketers. If someone came with a printout with a picture of the vehicle they will be using on my land with license plate numbers, their name, address, phone number and when they plan to be here with how many people, then I would be more inclined to grant permission.

It seems too many would be hunters want to avoid human contact where ever possible.

I don’t blame landowners and lease holders one bit for saying bugger off to the incessant phone calls.

Word of advice to the seemingly many, is get off your duff and have a face to face with the person who you are asking access from.

Yes I totally agree with you. I hate the phone calls from random guys. We’ve been lied to and burnt before so I’ve gotten to the point I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t know.
Guys asking for permission already have an advantage when they know where you live, what land you own and your phone number. Should be common courtesy to leave your contact info and the info of who and what vehicles will be accessing your property.

I much prefer to ask in person so the landowner knows who he is talking to.
I also let him know by text or a quick phone call whenever I plan to hunt just to make sure that day is okay for them. Sometimes it's not!

I have a printout with that exact info I pass to landowners who grant permission. Some guys get it and other guys are a bit more lazy.

That's all fine.

I just received permission on four large ranches from landowners that prefer a phone call vs. in person meets.

All four refused my offer of the information you would like.


I enjoy meeting the landowners before and after hunting, but many just don't want to do this. I'll go with the flow.


BTW, demanding ALL of this information as a condition of access to a provincial grazing lease may be going against the regulation.

Im sure both ways work.

The main thing is to ASK.

Some people dont like rejection and some dont like to reject requests. But somewhere inbetween it has to get done because we all know who the land belongs to.
