Noticed that on the golf course this year a couple of times, belligerent loud people getting drunk and dropping F-bombs and whooping and hollering that can be heard 3 fairways away. I guess there's a reason private golf clubs exist.

Called it:

https://calgaryherald.com/news/provi...ing-unsafe-use

“I’ve heard from many people in the Bow Valley, within the MD, but also Canmore and Banff residents that have told me they used to go camping out there and they don’t go out there anymore,” said Rosvold. “They don’t feel safe hiking with their families,”

— I guess there’s nowhere to go hiking in Banff or Canmore. No, they need to hike in a common firearm use area. Need protection from bears I guess…

&

“We’ve had instances where we took out large groups, like 15-20 people, and when we tried to return to our cars, there was shooting very close by. Sometimes it sounds very close and you just can’t really tell where it’s coming from,”

—Well yes, it’s a common firearm use area. Try Banff or Canmore.

They reference a wildfire and idiots that caused it kept shooting. That’s what law enforcement & fines are for. Goes for any recreational users, period.

“ Conservation officers, government staff and RCMP will patrol the area”

—why wait till now?

Still not making a lot of sense, has anyone actually been hurt? If so, individuals should be charged accordingly.

The far south-west corner of the area indicated on the map shows the intersection of Hwy 40 and Harrold Creek Road (Hwy 579).

The caption under their pic does denote a fire-ban, but the article outlines the firearms use ban. Rather deceiving.

No kidding. The whole thing just doesn’t add up.

So everyone is in agreement that instead of enforcing safety and anti-littering laws, “they” can just shut down an area and stop responsible people from using it? As if the good folks had a recourse to police the idiots themselves ???
Why not have a range that is built by the province? We can’t spare 10 bureaucrats to supervise it? The province can’t pay cleaning of a designated area once a week ? Since when?

Where is their spot? Should be open to tax paying sportsman and be a good positive opportunity for them to socialize with the public. We don't bite.
On my neighbours 1/4. Seriously.

Contacting MLAs seems like a good idea. Closure still doesn’t appear to have any credibility. Wonder if this could be connected to the opening up of crown lands to resort development? Would really hope not.

This sueing people seems to be what's wrecking everything.
I let hunters on my place. Are they going to sue me?
I know of a pit that was the same, gravel trucks and a loader left all the time, no issue- until there was one.
Now that pit is locked as well.
Someone decided it would be fun to shoot up the equipment.
