So true!
I was able to get out a couple weeks ago with my 8 yr old Daughter. We have a spot that is foot access only that we have had some success with elk at. So I kinda figured it was a 'take your Daughter and bow for a walk' kind of afternoon.
We headed into the 1/2 mile fence and then eased down into the bluffs and bush with the wind in our faces. Found a spot that seemed promising and set up. Of course we took our obligatory selfie to show mom later. I told her I was going to make some cow sounds and mix in a little bull call to see what happens.
I finished the calls and turned to her to whisper something. But caught movement out of the corner of my eye. A BULL at about 90 yrds! I said don't move! He was looking for the elk he'd heard so I cow chirped. He trotted down into a slough bottom at about 50 and hung up with no window for a shot. So I challenged him with a bugle. He headed right to us! At 6 yrd or so he saw me draw and whirled. But stopped for a look back at about 25. The shot broke and the arrow buried in his chest...a little high for my liking. He bolted and a stopped him with another bugle. When he turned and showed his side it looked real good.
We found him about an hour later with much celebration! Snapped some pics and got to work. That was 5ish pm...put the last quarter un the truck at 2 am. My little girl made ever trip in and out. That's a hunt I will never forget!
I'm no good at posting pics.
PSE Evo set at 60 lb. Shooting 100gr wasp jackhammer broadheads.

Time spent in the woods with the kids is so rewarding. Even more special that she was able to experience a successful hunt and pack-out!

Beautiful elk. Something about harvesting a magnificent animal just lessens the blow of the pack out and work. Hopefully you weren’t too self hating and kept the pack out below a km or so.

What an experience shared together. Seriously hunter heaven right there. I am dreaming of the days I can realistically bring my girls out there and have them experience the sights and sounds of the elk woods and not blow up the spot and send everything to the next drainage over.
Packing out till 2am is remarkable. How old is your daughter? You’re giving me hope of what could be a reality for my own family one day. Currently the 3 year old is the loudest thing in the woods

I knew I would be hunting moose and elk recently so I went into Jim bows with every intention of upgrading to heavy broadheads, stiffer arrows and inserts, but the staff all recommended sticking with small and fast for penetration rather than heavy. I'll admit I was doubtful since the trend lately seems to be heavy for penetration, but I had a complete pass through at over 70 yd on my elk.And the broadhead hit the ribs on both sides so can't argue with those results

Hey Leroy, beleive I shot the longbow safari at big valley with you and your boy. Not shooting my trad stuff much lately. Got married and had 4 kids pretty quickly so time is at a premium. I'll definitely get back to it one of these days.
My dad took me with him all the time so I know first hand how memorable it is to spend time in the field with my dad. Love getting my kids out when I can. This was the first bowhunt with one of them. She figures she better go all the time cause dad shoots stuff when she goes!

My 16 year old Son got his second whitetail with a bow last night. I purchased a saddle this year and have been using it and its been awesome. Yesterday afternoon I taught him how to use it, we went out, and within 30 minutes of his first hunt with it, he had a buck down. Shot was a full pass through at 20 yards and the arrow was stuck in a log behind the deer. Bowtech Realm @ 60lbs, Victory VAP 350's with 175 Grizzly Stix broad heads. Super proud of his hard work, and now he can focus on his Moose Draw for the rest of the season.

Birthday Buck
The first week of October I turned 70 and received this birthday buck. I was sitting over a mock scrape when a mixed group of mule and whitetail bucks and does drifted in during the morning twilight. The wind was perfect and i remained undetected and calm while they wandered about. I was about to take a fat dry doe when this fellow pushed her out of the way and stuck his head into the spruce licking branch I had screwed onto the side of a poplar. I thought about it for 10 seconds then ended my whitetail buck season with a heart shot. I saw him pile up but remained on stand as there were still deer all over the place. Nice to handle the deer in the daylight when it was warm.

Well haven’t posted in the Archery Section for sometime. After a friend kept razing me about getting back in the Archery game after spending most of the early season chasing waterfowl with my girls the past few years it all came together. Set up a couple cams in one of my favourite spots. Picked up a nice buck in velvet in August that caught my attention. Fast forward to thanksgiving giving weekend. Had some friends at the lake that wanted to bow hunt so I set them up in a couple spots and I headed to my stand. On the way in swapped out SD cards and climbed into my stand. To my surprise my target buck had passed by 2 nights in a row. On the 3rd night he was so lucky! I ended up shooting a tad far back and made the tough decision to leave him after tracking mediocre blood. Enjoy the pics.
