Default 240 Wby Mag a little sleeper.

I have grown very fond of shooting the 240 by mag . For anyone that wants a fast 6mm with little recoil and quality factory ammo it rocks.

Save the negative comments about cost , limited guns etc.

I have dealt with well over a dozen and it seems to be an inherently accurate cartridge with minimal fuzz to get great accuracy .

The factory ammo is good. I needed more brass as the few I did have were done and I found a good price on factory ammo. My plan was to buy a few boxes of ammo shoot it and use the brass. It shoots so well I went and bought 10 boxes.

I agree. Factory Weatherby Select is so damn accurate in my 257 that I have to work hard to beat it. The first 4 boxes I bought for brass becuase it was on sale cheaper than empty brass. If I had known how well it shot I would have bought 30 boxes and never bothered reloading. Problem is now it is near 120 for 20 and I can load for a 5th of that, but it is still GREAT ammo.

The factory 100 gr ammo clocks 3250 according to garmin. Advertised is 3275 fps . I put one together for my son as well using a Ruger 77 and a Douglas barrel and it is stupid accurate with the factory ammo as well .

Yesthe factory stuff is fast. 100 grain in my 257 chronos at 3650 fps. I have no trouble geeting handloads to that or a bit above but beating the .3 3 shot groups that factory ammo does took quite a bit of fiddiling around. The 117 interlocks at 3400 fps are the Hammer of Thor on Deer and Antelope well past 700 yards. They literally drop on the spot like they have been pole axed. My bet is the 240 does the same thing.

I am of the belief that bullet rotation has an effect on killing power .

Do you need a 26" tube for these velocities...how much do you lose with a 24" tube?

I’ve been handloading for a friends .240 Bee over the last couple of years. It’s just his deer rifle and we went with an 80gr TTSX north of 3600fps. Can’t recall the exact velocity but, they are sizzling. It’s an absolute hammer of a deer offering. It really spanks. Load work up was super easy. Not sure if I just got lucky or what but, it sure wasn’t fussy. Accuracy with velocity came quickly. Pun intended. If I didn’t already have a .257 Wby and a 6mmAI, I’d probably have one myself.

I do have a 26 inch barrel on the 257 but really, 24 inches couldn't cost you more than 75 fps. I actually have a 20 inch barrel rifle that shoots faster than any 24 incher I have ever shot in the same cartridge. It isnt just as simple as barrel length.,

I had one but man was it picky, only liked 90gr ballistic tips and I hate that bullet so I sold it.

Was a real shame because I imported it from California and it was a West German made.

The 240 W has always intrigued me as has 257 W ...all said I can get 3500fps in a 243win with superformance and an 80gr ttsx...and 3500fps with a 100gr in a 2506rem I think I used nosler book #2... had a 7mmW in a sako75 that got 3450fps with a 140 gr ttsx purchased from an AO member and I am only 100fps behind it with same in a 7mm remmag...so idk what the advantage is in the real world unless some of your handloads have the sweet sauce and can punch significantly higher...I don't mean to cast dispersion, but I struggle to understand the wee bee advantages with today's powders etc...just my observations and the lens I am looking through here

A bunch of years ago I was visiting with a hunter / gun enthusiast and he was using a 240 Wby with Barnes X for elk . He was from Pincher Creek and had used it successfully on several elk . Maybe better choices for elk but he was having success .

With a 26” barrel, 3700 is achievable with the 80gr TTSX.

That 80gr barnes at 3500 to 3700 is a bomb...it will take out both shoulders and the wind bags easy peasey on anything in NA

Funny I was just shooting my beloved WBee MK 5 240 today
I replaced the factory NOT so Light ultra light stock with a Peak 44 Carbon Fibre I use a Leo 6-18 CDS scope on it . Weights in at exactly 6.5 lbs .
Shoots REAL good with a Nosler 95 BT bullet over top of RL26 for 3610 fps avg for 3 shots . Usally 1/2 to 5/8 groups . I really like the WBee MK 5 6 lug actions . Gonna need to do some trigger work thou to lighten it and take out the wee bit if creep or replace it with a trigger tech . RJ
