Southern Alberta Brown Trout
Hello all,
I am from northern BC, but currently living in the Lethbridge area for school. I have heard many of the rivers around here (including the Oldman) have brown trout and I would love to catch one! I am an avid fly fisherman and they are not present where I am from so I'd love to cross it off my list while I'm down here.
I am looking for some advice on the best place I could potentially catch one on the fly. I have tried the Oldman near the dam and had no luck. I am not looking for secret holes or giant fish, I just simply want to catch one (could be a 10inch dink for all I care). I am no stranger to putting in the work to find fish myself so all I want is just a general area that's good this time of year. It also doesn't have to be the Oldman, I'd be more than willing to travel up to 2 hours from Lethbridge to find one if any of the other rivers in this area are more productive for browns.
Any tips on flies this time of year would be much appreciated as well! From my short research, it sounds like streamers can be productive this time of year? Even dries as well?
Thanks!
