Catalytic converter
My catalytic converter on my 1998 GMC 1500 daily driver is starting to rattle , and occasionally check engine light , the sign it’s on its way out , I’ve been looking on line , Parts Avatar has a Walker universal catalytic converter that fits my truck,, but shows no oxygen sensor port , I have a oxygen sensor on the present catalytic converter, can a oxygen sensor port be installed, thanks for all replies

I wonder if a exhaust shop or a good welder could remove it from the old one and weld it in the new one? Or straight pipe and some black electricians tape over the check engine light
I was lucky when the scum bags stole mine off my 04 F250 V10. The O2 sensors are above it so straight pipe and no engine lights.

Straight pipe and delete the o2 sensor. Any decent shop can have this done in an hour.
I have never heard of anyone replacing a cat in a vehicle that old here in AB.

You can delete the Cat but you need to keep the O2 sensors. The vehicle runs WAY better with it in place.
Also, any good shop can install an O2 bung in the pipe or the cat quite easily. It is just a weld in threaded fitting.

A couple points ....
It's the upstream 02 sensor which contributes to the air:fuel mixture. If you opt to straight pipe the thing (cut out the cat) then you can still keep both the upstream and downstream O2 sensors in place. You will get P0420 or P0430 (catalyst performance) check engine light codes.
I recommend if opting to replace the catalyst then use only factory parts (assuming they're still available). The difference in quality between aftermarket and OEM cats is staggering when it comes to the precious metal content contained therein. There is a reason that the aftermarket ones cost less. Even when scrapping cats, the OEM ones command at least double the price of the comparable aftermaket cat, on average. The fallout of this reduced platinum and palladium content is that it's touch and go if the aftermarket cat will actually treat the noxious gasses enough to satisfy the emissions requirements, thereby avoiding the P0420/P0430 codes.
Over my career I have installed many aftermarket cats, but it has always been with the caveat that it's 50:50 if the darn thing will actually do its job. They succeed and fail at roughly this ratio.
Best of luck.

Cut out the convertor on my '02 suburban, had it like that for a few years. Did nothing with the o2 sensors. Had a CEL on, borderline louder rumble if the engine, and borderline increase (if i remember correctly) in fuel consumption. The shop charged me about $200 to cut the converter out, which should be free if you leave them the converter to recycle 🤔😁😁😁

I did this on a 1999 F250. Midas Muffler on Stony Plain Road. Did this in about an hour. It was several years ago now, and I think I only paid $80.00.

I had my 1989 3/4 ton cat removed and installed a pipe .With out a cat it was to loud . So I had a bigger muffler installed . The other down side is ,your exhaust just stinks badly . Every person walking by ,you will hear them say whats that smell !
IF your lucky some scum bag will steel your cat and you can claim it threw insurance.
