New trapline
I lucked out and managed to buy a trapline a couple months ago, an old fella had it for nearly 70 years. Biologists approved the transfer within a week, Safe to say I will be counting down the days till the season opens.

I have hunted/sledded and been all over that zone for years. If you got the line with the wicked cabin in the middle of nowhere, you have some awesome country to play in. Congrats.

What is state of trapping trails, were they kept up by previous owner? Also logging companies have been destroying cutlines at request of Alberta Forestry to, I guess 'Save the caribou" from wolves.

Trails are in decent shape, theres a few I will have to open back up that haven’t been used much in a few years.

Very cool! Still blows my mind you have to register your line and have a biologist approve a transfer. Maybe thats a more efficient method. I'm not an expert trapper by any means but run a few beaver and martin traps each season. Every year I move around and rarely set the same place year to year.

Ford, our Registered Trapline system was established in 1930's. the lines are between 1-5 Townships in size. A qualified trapper that has taken one or more trapping training courses, has enough equipment (Quads/snowmobile etc) and few years of trapping experience can apply for one of around 2000 Registered Trap lines in Alberta. Reason, unregulated trapping almost destroyed beaver population in 1920's.
PS Most traplines with decent cabin sell for around $100K in last 10-15 years.
