Default Cow and bull Applications

I apologize if this question has been asked before but the search feature won't let me search words 3 letters or less. I'm just wondering why i'm unable to apply for bull and cow tags for moose and elk. I just selected priority only on the bull tag thinking that I could apply for cows as well. But there is no option for that.

Pretty sure it’s a one or the other draw

One or the other - antlered, antlerless, or calf (in case of moose). Can only collect priority for one at a time.

Well that's a shame. It obvious makes sense to not draw both in a year but seems a bit silly to have to lose a year of priority if you want to draw a cow tag. Especially in some of the farmland zones that have high elk numbers. Oh well, could be worse I suppose

Those zones usually have undersubscribed tags available that you can pick in addition to your general elk tag or after putting in for priority only draw.

It makes sense the way it is set up now. Imagine if everyone accumulated priority on antlered, antlerless, and calf moose at the same time.

I 100% agree regarding moose. I'm mainly referring to farmland cow elk. I don't know of any alberta moose populations that could handle that kind of pressure.

Anyways, thanks all for the responses. My question was answered

This is what keeps me from ever shooting a cow moose. Which is okay by me I guess. All priority goes to the bull.

Same as elk. draws have always been for bulls

Should be doing draws the same for mule deer and whitetail as well. Sell undersubscribed smoothie tags if absolutely necessary

Exactly!!! Yet they are still selling supplemental tags in zones that the population is down 70%. At least not many getting hit by vehicles anymore!

You can alternate years though. One year choose bull priority and the next year choose cow. That way you can build priority on both, but it takes double the time.

If they let everyone apply for both antlered and antlerless, it would just take more priority to draw. Because there would be more applications.
