Default Acreage Cistern Maintenance

Hi,

I was just wondering for those on this forum with water cisterns for their drinking water, do you ever get the tank cleaned? If so, how often? Is this something you hire someone to do or ? Have you ever tested your water?

Appreciate any information, I am wondering if my tank doesn't need to be cleaned.

Sincerely.

Not an annual thing, but I’ve pumped it out, scrubbed it with bleach, rinsed and sucked it dry, then re-filled it. Not much growth when it doesn’t get sunlight in/on it.

What kind of water are you running in it?
If it's chlorinated town water, you probably don't have anything growing in it.

I shock it once a year, right before I fill the hot tub. No wasted water flushing it

Most have touched on important areas. I would recommend new chlorinated water added at least once per month. You might add a puck of chlorine every few months to keep free chlorine level high. Scrubbing every few years with high chlorine water would be good insurance.

Water sample after you just filled cistern would tell you nothing except origional chlorine level in city water. You need to let it sit for 2-3 weeks to see if water quality still meets spec.
