Default Whole home humidifier?

Looking to improve the air quality in our house with a humidifier. The house was built in the mid 70's, 1200sq ft, used to have a drum style humidifier but I took it out a couple years ago, it was ancient and disgusting.

From the reading I've done there are several different styles available, hoping someone here can provide some experiences or direction as to what might be a good unit.

Thanks.

I replaced my Old drum style humidifier with a New Modern Honeywell unit. It was the worst mistake I ever made. The new humidifier flushes most of the water down the drain and does not add it all to humidity like old unit. I haul city water and now need to haul 11,000 gallons just for the waste water going into my sewer each winter.

Hey grey wolf. I did a similar thing except I put a 45 gallon plastic barrel below the humidifier. In the barrel I put a pond pump capable of a 6 ft lift. I had the pump connected to the furnace. Fill the barrel, furnace comes on, pump comes on, excess water drains back into the barrel. Was filling the barrel weekly in the winter. Water has a lot of scale in it, but that would be the issue with any system that was installed. Those draining systems waste hundreds of gallons of water.

We have one of those Honeywell's too. It's so-so, imo. Definitely does waste a ton of water, but it works. I notice a big difference when adjusting the humidity. Have to stay on top of it in the winter; as soon as the temperature drops it's icing up the windows and attic.

I would be happy if it was putting the humidity on the windows instead of in the sewer. Good suggestion to recycle the water Spirit n4U.
