New insurance app?
I was approached by my insurance to get an App that would get about 10$ per month of my payment, he said that the app shows if you are texting when driving or how you apply your brakes and the speed you are traveling.Any of you other guys have this? What's your thoughts? Sounds pretty invasive to me.

Coming soon everywhere. You will be forced to have a device plugged into vehicle, drive aggressive and they will jack up your rates. Already happening down south.

My son just told me he is on the Intact app for this. When he stopped using it(deactivated or whatever he did), Intact was quick to bill him $120.00 bucks twice. Their reason, we have no way to prove you are following the conditions so you lose your discount.
In my line of work, the software in big equipment(farm) is already tracking owners and it's crazy what Big Brother at the factory can do from thousands of miles away. Shut you down if your behind in payments kinda stuff. I know shops can download all kinds of info from equipment and semi trucks these days. Vehicles too if they want to see what your doing prior to say a crash.
As mentioned, soon gov will allow all Ins companies to make it mandatory that they get to track our every move when driving from braking, speeds etc in the name of cheaper rates. I don't look forward to that day.

Sounds like the discount could pay for a second cellphone line. one you can leave at home.
PS. I know its more than $10 for a second line, It`s a way to get around the tracking.

So would the app be able to tell if I had a burger in my left hand, a can of Pepsi in the other and steering with my knees?

Hearing stuff like this mak s me happy I don’t have a personal cell phone! My employer supplies me with a work phone. They’re ok if we make the odd personal call or send texts but get cranky when we start downloading music and apps.

These have been around for quite a few years now. Some companies units plug into the OBD port on your vehicle so dont even use your cell phone. And yes outside of telling whats in your hand they can tell pretty much everything going on. Had to create some training for these several years ago for an insurance company so heard lots of stories on them.

Haha cheaper rates! Thats a good one. I remember when they said all this safety equipment on cars would make insurance cheaper because it will prevent accidents. Now instead of a 1000 bumper it is now 4-5000 with the array of sensors in the stupid thing. So fewer accidents maybe but even small ones are insanely expensive. The body shops love it because they just bill insurance. Insurance loves it because they just bill us. We just bend over and take it and that is that.
It will be cheaper rates for a year or two and then they will make up for it with the constant 10% raises. In 5 years you won't even notice the discount and we will all be roped into this "monitoring".
My upbringing was being told by the older generation that insurance rates just keep going down as you age. Here I am nearing 40 and every year they go up every year. My only defense is to shop around every year. Loyalty means nothing if the entire insurance industry is corrupt and in the politicians back pockets. And neither does being a good driver. Not a claim or ticket in 17 years and the only way I can afford to make it is to buy vehicles outright and just put liability and pray nothing happens.

"Sounds pretty invasive to me."
Pretty invasive?
Selling "Your" privacy is thoroughly invasive, giving backdoor access to strangers and all those that they sell your private information to for a few $. Screwing yourself and everyone else as this becomes standard for our children because "You" bent over for money.
I'm dumbfounded that people accept giving business and governments such control over their lives.

I just switched from one car insurance company to another. Both companies had offered me this option. I said Firm No! Unless they are willing to buy me a new cell phone with the data plan. That was the end of the conversation.
