Default Need new arrows.. Needs some advice

I enjoy shooting and hunting with my bow, but I haven't needed to buy arrows in many years.

Last time I bought arrows I bought "Beman ICS Hunter 300 9.5 gpi"

My bow weight is 76lbs and my draw is 28- 28.5 (can't recall exactly which"

No bow shops anywhere near me.. I'll be ordering. I know someone who can cut the arrows to length for me, but I'd like to buy arrows with fletching and nocks already in if I can.

I'm sure the technology has improved. What are my options?

Default arrows

Technology is crazy now, are you looking for light and fast? heavy for penetration? undersized (small diameter) shafts for all the benefits they claim? Best to talk about your purpose, game size, shooting distance etc. If you are shooting whitetails from tree stands, really doesn't matter the shaft as long as its spined for your rig, which will also determine your shaft. What bow, weight of broadhead, shaft length etc etc. if you wanted to pm me, I can give you some info, I worked in a shop for years and was a pro staff shooter on the 3d circuit for a bit.

I'm a fan of the smaller diameter arrows...
Victory VAP .166 or RIP .204 arrows are great. Their tolerances are good (a bit better than Gold Tip I find) and they spine aligned (possible snake oil).
if possible, try and get a helical vane and if you have an arrow spinner, spin the arrows before glueing in the inserts and index them. You will get great broadhead flight in the end.

Thanks for the info! I'll give more info here (incase others could use the info) and pm you..

-I mainly hunt white tails and black bears and a bit of moose.

-I keep my shots less than 40 yards hunting, but practice out to 55-60

-the bow is a PSE super short. Its old, but I like it.

-broadhead has always been GrimReaper mechanical 100gr

-shaft length 29 3/4 (not including tip or knock)

I've shot Easton FMJ 300's out of my 70# CE for years. Tough, do tend to bend permanently if they bounce off a target (shoot better) but pull from a target SO nicely. Heavy weight (again, my personal hunting limit is 40 yards, but like you I practice to farther distances). Go through Mule/Whitetail Deer like nothing, haven't had the chance to throw one in the direction of an Elk (yet).

Let's face it - you'll pull more arrows than anything else you do with them. Pulling an aluminum arrow from a target with 2 fingers vs. wrestling with a carbon arrow having to use 2 hands is the added plus I'm looking for.

My 300's weigh in at just over 500 grains with a 100 gr BH. I tried the lightweight route, going as low as 400 finished arrow weight - didn't like it.

J.

I'm a big fan of the Easton FMJ's 340's (for my bow). They are heavier at 11.3 GPI, but tipped with 100gr grim reaper I've taken both a bull moose and a bull elk with them. Both frontal shots (also pass through's) and both 20 yard recoveries.

If you want I can make you up a dozen Gold Tip XT Hunters 300 spine in your length with Blazers. I spine index all my arrows and then square them are both ends with a ASD. It would be $160 for the dozen. plus actual shipping. If you would like 4 inch white wraps it would be an extra $20

I spent a ton of time researching arrows and weights and all that goes into it. What I came out with is a 548 grain arrow with 125 grain fixed blade heads ( magnus) and a 100 grain brass insert. I actually got it to shoot great with the 65/80 Cabelas stalker extreme (same as your ICS Hunters) out of my 65lb elite answer.

All this to say I would 100% suggest looking at a heavier arrow set up with a good % of weight forward. I can say with confidence its easily the most effective arrow I have harvested a animal with.
