Default Spray lakes acsess and ice.

Just wondering if anyone knows how the roads are going into spray lakes? I was thinking about going on Tuesday but heard they were pretty bad.

I think the ice will be ok but if anyone knows the ice conditions.../ snow on the ice...ect it would be appreciated.

Also does anyone have a guess as to when the ice will be fishable untill?

Tnx

Happy

Right now, the road is supposedly the worst it's been for many years - all potholes & washboard.

I went on Friday and the road is bad with potholes but still manageable. Lots of cars going in. Ice is still very thick and no meltwater where I was. Should be good for quite a while yet. Pretty slow fishing though, only got one whitefish. Lots of fish on camera but not interested.

It's BRUTAL, and I did it in an F150.

I was up there 2 days ago, ice is still fine, the road was brutal, but doable.
I’m driving a 4x4.
Fishing has slowed down considerably-only landed 3, and only saw a few more than that. That’ll be it for ice fishing this year for me-time to find some hungry spring pike from shore.

Was fishing for 6 hours in 85ft, off Sparrowhawk.
Let us know how you do if you end up going.

Tight lines
John

Last summer I came in from the K lake side but went out canmore side and it was very bad. Wonder how well it is maintained. I know it would probally take a temporary closure to upgrade it but would be worth it in the long run.

On the positive side I saw my first mountain goat in years on the worst stretch of it.

The amount of traffic that road is seeing now is staggering. I've never seen so many vehicles up there in 20 years until COVID hit and facebook hiking groups exploded.

I was up on Tuesday. They were working on the road, and some sections were much better than a week ago, but many sections still pretty bad. Ice is still 28" thick, but the top 12" or so is so bad that it was tough to anchor the tent. Fortunately, it wasn't very windy.
