Powder for 300 wsm 220 eldx
What powder do you guys figure will give me the best velocities with the 220 eldx in 300 wsm, I have on hand h1000, h4350, and h4831. Rifle is a custom with a 28” heavy barrel from bob jury

If you are thinking of getting more powder, try some H 100V. It`s a very efficient powder in a lot of different cases. With your.300 WSM 28`barrel you should get pretty close to 2850 MV with 60.7 gr at approx 62,000 psi. with that bullet. Start at 58.7

I reload 208 Amax with RL17 in my 300 WSM Tikka T3 (24 inch barrel). My best accuracy load delivers 2,860 FPS and solid accuracy for a sporter setup (0.5 to 0.75 MOA at 600 yards). RL17 sits right next to H4350 on a burn-rate chart so it should be a decent comparison. That said, with your 28 inch barrel, you may be able to take advantage of the slower burning powders you listed. I'd say give all three a try. Or at least load H4350 (it should be very good) and the H1000 (might be too slow, but with 28 inchs of barrel, maybe not) and see how they compare. If you only want to try one -- H4350 is the safe bet, in my opinion

Check out Chuck's thread on the 30-06 with Reloader 26. You may want to switch to an aught six , he is getting more speed than your WSM with the heavy bullets.

A 300 WSM should see the high 28`s to low 2900`s mv with RL 26. Pressures around 62000 psi (-+ 5% )... according to QL.
Chucks load is working with .030 freebore as well. That helps. No flies on his RL 26 30-06 load that I can see.

Thanks for the info Salavee I will see if I can get ahold of some rl 26 ....does anyone know if it is temp insensitive? I just checked a burn rate chart and it shows that h1000 and rl26 are side by said as well as h4350 and rl17

There isn`t a powder out there that is 100% temperature stable, but some are more sensitive to temp swings than others. RL-26, as near as I can tell, is about the middle of the pack and you will lose about 100 fps between 70 deg F and Zero F with that cartridge. H1000 is much more bulky than RL26 and is less efficient with that particular load.
