Behind the No Hunting signs
If you can get access behind those signs, which in that part of the world is extremely difficult....Find the absolute thickest steepest hell hole and watch the edges with a good spotter from a long ways away, till well after dark. They won’t come out during daylight. Once you know where to start, pick a day with a steady wind and creep, as slow as possible, into the wind. Might take you all day to hunt a 10 acre patch. You will blow them out 19 times out of 20, and have to find a new spot. I found them 3 times total in 5 years when I used to hunt out there, and never killed one, thick bush in the way every time.
It’s worth understanding there aren’t that many elk in those zones...those seasons were opened because of a few influential landowners complaining about crop damage, and said landowners don’t allow hunting, so guess where the elk go. Probably the most frustrating kind of hunting out there.
