Default Fur Prices

Did you know you can get $400 for a Beaver and a Mink? They said so right on that "Mountain Man" tv show, so it must be true, but my Fur Fish and Game Magazine says current prices are around $20 for a beaver and $10 to $12 for a mink.... The magazine must be wrong.

The sad part is that city folk believe the garbage they see on tv......

Guys we are like farmers, we sell our raw fur for rock bottom prices at the bottom of the value adding scale. I believe Tom tans and mounts his furs, that's why he gets much better prices for them.

Correct. Finished furs , even just for wall hangers will fetch a decent price.

I might try my hand at tanning if I get a fox.

Good points....they didn't specify that on the show. I want to know how he traps all winter long and never gets his hat dirty. It's TV.....they do what they have to do to get people to watch... Kind of like that guy that's supposedly going 350 miles to his trapline on his new snowmobile in a vast wilderness where no one else goes, but he's following a very well used snowmobile trail...

I still like the show...far better than the Alaskan Bush people where the kid talks about deer rubbing the "felt" off their horns on a tree and then pulls out a piece of the lungs from a deer and looks at the camera and says it's the deer's kidneys..

They do have trapper welfare inthe north. Catch a beaver and the government pays you a gauranteed amount, very lucrative. Not limited to beaver. FHA is in on it, likely the administrative part, plus they get to sell the goods. They sell the goods and the govt pays the northern trapper the difference.

This too. Andrew speaks about the bonus and guarantee.

Default Top prices

You can also get top prices. Several " Playground trapline" owners who don`t really trap still need numbers to keep their line.
