Post WMU 445 Archery

Looking to head up into WMU 445 for the bow season for the end of August - early September. Was curious to know what the animal populations are like. Specifically moose and elk. Not afraid to put some miles on the boots.

Elk are nearly non existent. Moose used to be great. But the past 3-4 years it's really taken a beating. Wolves winters Grizzlies and a lot more hunting pressure has really brought the population down.

You might get lucky, but i would bet on 2-4 years before you figure out some areas to try.

And watch out for the angry outfitters...

Look at the harvest reports and tag numbers , that is an indication of what the numbers are like. Find a unit that has good numbers. Take ur bow and hunt there, you will likely have it to yourself, even an overhunted place like the saddle hills.

If you're going for sight seeing at kakwa falls, it's worth the drive, but if you really want to kill something, you need to change your plan. Deer and elk are barely present, you could spend a month in there and not seeing a single one. Bear and moose are in low numbers, you will drive over 100 km's through much better country to get there.
