Typical Wt
172 2/8 net
Would have netted 180 if not for 8" of stickers. I call it a 190 gross

312 views, 2, maybe three have more than one book buck. Looks like less than 1% of the population has 2 or more book bucks. To think, someone knows over 20 people that have 2 or more book bucks

I made the comment if you get one true book buck in your life you are lucky, 2 and you're a poacher. Although I know there are exceptions to the rule, the truth of the matter is, finding a deer that nets over book is rare, killing one is extremely rare and killing several is almost unheard of, even if you spend 340 out of 365 days in the field.

I do know a farmer that's in his 60's and goes out scouting or hunting nearly every day of his life. He is well known throughout the county as an antler hound. Even this guy only has 3 Boone and Crockett bucks, 2 whitetail, 1 muley. I would venture to say he has one of the largest, if not THE largest shed collection in Alberta, and maybe even Canada.

I'm going to set up a poll once I figure out how the heck to do it, and try and get a more accurate % of hunters who have taken an official book buck. I think Alberta ranks 7th in overall ranking of places that produce book bucks, be interesting to see the % of AO'ers who have accomplished it.

That's an awesome buck, stickers and splits are a killer. I don't agree with not counting them as a gross score either.

This is my 2008 archery whitetail, at the time he was the seventh biggest non-typical harvested by archery in alberta. He grossed 209 7/8 and ended up netting 202 7/8 non-typical.

Not hard to find multiple book bucks if your in the right area, killing one is the hard part.

Maybe multiple bucks that gross over book, it's the net part that gets me every time..... So far.

As far as the killing part goes, I'm sure a big ol pile of grain would greatly increase the odds of getting the opportunity at one.

Thanks, 2006 was the first year I had pics of him, and in 2007 my guess is he was probably a 220 inch deer, never saw him on foot in either year.

That's why there are so few entered from Alberta each year. I don't think I know anyone who would pay the entry fee to have one included in B&C.

As many have related, net scoring is a good way to make 2 bucks score the same despite one being much bigger in every conceivable way. If deer were meant to grow perfectly symmetrical racks, I would think that most of them would. Instead, the only thing harder to find than a 200" buck is a 170+ with no deductions. Hmmmm, Typical you say??? I think not... But that is a whole nother topic in itself (and a well beaten dead horse )
