This doesn't sound like a neighbor you want to have a good relationship with. On my land we shot all the time with no issues from neighbors. In this case and with her attitude, I'd have told her to screw off and get the hell off my land. Period.

I would have told her to exit the property and mind her own FN business. At that point I probably would have reloaded and continued on doing what I was doing. Let the cops show up, they would have dealt with it. As long as you were within the law what more could she do. You were perfectly within your rights as a land owner. I wouldn't have let some Hag with an attitude and minimal grey matter interfere with my activities and I certainly wouldn't have taken it for an hour. I had to deal with a neighbor once for shooting. He used to take picture of us shooting gophers from the road on his atv. I told him once when I ran into him in town if told him if he had a problem to call the police. Nothing ever came of it and I never stopped shooting either. I would be setting the wheels in motion to charge her with trespassing, that way the RCMP will know who she is in the future.

This and get her plate number. Continue enjoying the shooting.

Some hilarious responses thus far. Nobody suggesting to SSS? Haha

I'd be taking a photo of them and their license plate then immediately call the police myself so they could see how you were set up and at that point she'd have more obligation to remain there and wait for them to arrive. This stuff needs to be addressed or the law will be siding with the crazies before we know it. People like that love to get others on board with ridiculous ideas and make changes to policies they know nothing about. That's how we ended up with the ndp lol!

Edit: and when the police are there, I would explain a very clear message about trespassing to her and her partners in crime

Ok now that you've both calmed down go and pay her a visit. Be polite and prove to her that you aren't breaking any laws. Let her know that you'll be shooting again on your own land and that it won't be a safety concern. If she won't listen to reason report her for harassment.

It's always best to take the high road although it ain't easy

Ya right and bring her a dozen roses and a bottle of wine while you are at it! Personally I would not give her the time of day.

What I would be doing is looking up the best PMS jokes on earth for the next round and have the cops on standby.

Hopefully she is so outraged that she will get cuffed. hehe

^ I would not pay her a visit. Continue doing whatever you want legally. She has had enough time to make phone calls, do some research, and talk to people to know it was no harm no foul. If she's actually decent, she will come to you and apologize. Stay off her property.

Well this lady starts just tearing me a new one telling me she was calling the cops and that I can't be shooting high powered guns into the air this isn't the wild wild west she says you could kill a dog or a child how would you like if someone shot your child or dog she says. I asked her did someone shoot your dog? I can assure you it wasn't us because we are shooting shotguns in the air into 700 yards of field. That's not the point and she went off once again asking if I even have permission to be out here I told her yes as this is my land. She then proceeded to copy down my licence plate and said she was calling the cops. after about half an hour of screaming at us she finally got in her trunk and left. What is the best way to handle someone like this I didn't want to start screaming back as it is very hard to argue with stupidity even know I wanted to very bad. The closest house to where we were shooting was about 900 yards and the opposite direction from where we were shooting there were cows the next quarter over but they were a good 1200 yards away and again we were not shooting in there direction I have no idea where this women even lives but I know she doesn't live right around my land.
You coulda suggested this line from Grand Torino...

warning some coarse language.

Then again, you could reminded her she was trespassing

Cat and Elkhunter have the best responses. I might have cut a shell to show her what was inside if I felt patient. But I probably would have cut her off and called the police in front of her to report a hysterical trespasser who may have some substance abuse problems and is probably driving illegally.

Should bring them pretty quick, and get it dealt with. While waiting I would have been taking notes and narrating them in front of her, including vehicle description, license plate, and physical characteristics. And maybe started some interrogation.

While she is fliping out tell her there's something different about her today, and then ponder over it a few minutes while she continues to flip out, then say i got it! Last time i saw you there were cross hairs on your forehead.

Townies buying 2 acres in the country and try to bring their stupidity with them.

Same exact thing happened to us a couple years ago.

Shooting skeet. 2 kms of hills and bush to the nearest house. In the opposite direction.

New housewife slow rolls my buddies approach about 9 times. 45 minutes later two rc cruisers pull into the drive and state they have reports of rifles being fired at her house. She says she heard them whiz by her head.

Showed them the 500 empty hulls and direction we were shooting. They just shook their head and apologized for wasting our time and off they went to have a chat with her.

I am thinking that the officers informed the idiot that they did not want to be wasting their time again concerning this. If she is stupid enough to call again, they not only won't respond, but they will likely deal with her for making false reports. That is how you put an end to this nonsense.

They were genuinely irritated to be drug out there for nothing. As were we.

Id hope she got a stern warning about wasting already limited resources.

You nailed it! This is exactly the problem and it just keeps on getting worse every year. Between these idiots & the safety nazis, they just suck all the fun out of life.

It seems like just about everyone on the forum has had a run in with the new breed of townies living in the "country". I would just ignore her this time, if she shows up again remind her that's she is trust passing and call her in.

Not sure exactly what I would have done if I were in that situation myself...but since I'm not...and have had time to ponder it... Under the circumstances, it sounded like you handled it carefully. Crappy to get broad-sided with an encounter like that when/where you're least expecting it. Going forward...

Unloading the guns and setting them down~good idea. Hopefully someone you were with witnessed that too. Who knows what a nut bar will accuse you of if they get backed into a corner. I would encourage you to go shooting when/where you want on your own land, but if/when this person...these people show-up again, I'd do this;

1. Record the interaction on your cell phone if possible. You, or your buddy. Document the vehicle(s) license plate and ask for the person's name as well~at the very least. Leave it rolling and say you're doing that for your own protection if you get asked.

2. Tell the person that THEY'RE trespassing on private land, and that you'll press charges if they don't get off, and stay off of it from this point forward.

3. Tell them you're completely within your rights to shoot on your own property, and are doing so in a lawful way. If they can't accept that, encourage them TO call the police.

On a side note....shooting clays with shotguns (usually #7-1/2-#9 shot) on a piece of land that large...would not be loud to anyone NOT on the land right beside you. If they took that much offense by target loads from a distance, who knows HOW they'd react if it was 00 Buck/Slugs....or even a higher power centerfire. Better to nip this situation sooner than later, so I'd almost be inclined to make a point of getting out there and see if she/it returns. She sounds completely irrational, but definitely ill-informed. A friend of mine has a large pc. of land he shoots on, but it's right in the heart of Ontario cottage country. Immense depth to this place, so 110% safe, and it's completely legal to shoot there. It belongs to his family. Anticipating the local police (OPP/Ontario Provincial Police) would get phone calls when he got the SKS hot, he used to call them before heading out...tell them about when he planned on starting/stopping...where the land was, etc. Before long, it wasn't necessary to even call because 1. the neighbors along that quiet road knew there was a shooting range that might get noisy for a few hours once in a while 2. the police knew who he was, where he was and weren't concerned. Not saying this is your fix, but I guess I mention it because in spite of all the bad press...the police are usually equally willing to protect your rights as a shooter, and land owner. Sounds as though they'd tell this woman to go fly a kite.

Thanks for all the advice. So either she decided not to call the cops or they told her to pound sand because I never did get a phone call surprise surprise lol. Don't worry next chance I get I will be out siting in my rifles and shooting some more clay if the old bat shows up which I doubt she does it will be me calling the cops on her. I will try and record her crazy ass incase she decides to lie about the situation.
