That sucks, can you drive right up with a vehicle or was it someone on a atv? Need a couple tree cams in bird houses.

I got a system that I need to put up that will email me pics when taken. At least it will give a guy some pics to find the guy. My trail going to the cabin from the road is about 200 yards but it is super wet all the time and hard to not get stuck so it keeps most people from driving in and snooping. The problem is that it is on the shore of a lake that has fish so you get a few people coming in to fish. I put a steel door up last week as well.
I plan on building a new cabin on the northern part of my line and I am thinking of a 16' by 24' cabin with no windows and rebar all through the walls and door. That way they can't chainsaw the way in. Got to figure out a way to secure the door real good but maybe a metal door with a lockbox over a big padlock. The only way in would be an oxy acetylene tank and cut it off lol

crappy deal, forsure. sad times.

probably not a lock big enough. that would keep people out of a cabin. if they wanted in.

might be better just to leave it bear proofed but unlocked. and take a "go bag/tote" with the basics, every time you go. leaving nothing of value.

i would suspect, that in that area. it's going to be an ongoing issue.

It sounds like someone camping out that way decided that they needed a grate and some wood for their fire. The Cat, well, I guess that there had to be some planning behind that one. I don't suppose that a gate would make much of a difference, would it?

One problem with the cat is they made all ignition keys the same. A friend of mine ended up changing out the ignition on all his cats. The removing the battery cable wasn't enough of a deterrent. To many guy borrow and then leave it down the road 5 miles. Years ago when I guy borrowed your cat he'd at least put it back with in feet of the same spot you left it. No respect.

Big metal grate is an understatement . It was a 600lb crusher cone

My buddy spent $2000 on a fabricated steel door and frame and 2 steel frame screened windows in his licenced lawful trapper cabin,,,

2 weeks later he found they had chainsawed a NEW door in the opposite wall and stolen all items of any value !

Man u guys, that is unreal!! I've seen many cabins, check it out and appreciate the value of the owners passion then leave it as I found it.
Now guys have to build their cabins with bullet proof doors and rebar through the walls. That kind of crap make me sick!! Sorry for your misfortunes!!

That's too bad Phil. I stopped splitting my firewood I cut until I actually need it. Apparently people are even too lazy to split your wood to burn in your fire pit now and the amount being stolen has actually come down.
My cabin is log with a heavy steel door that opens out. I also have heavy steel grating over all my windows and as of yet I have been fortunate.
I did have some memory cards stollen from my trail cameras the other day though, people are such facking low life's

Thing is I really don't care if anyone comes and helps themselves to a fire and burn my wood while they are there. I just barely chained my boats down last week because of this now and felt like if someone wanted to use my boat then have at her and just bring it back in one piece. Kinda sucks that one guy can ruin it for the rest. I wish I could leave a bunch of stuff in my cabin like a generator and all kinds of things but it seems I am going to have to pack a cargo trailer every time I go now instead and have the hassle to pack and unpack.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Rebar in the walls of new cabin sounds interesting, but don't forget the roof. Might be better in long run to put up small steel building for your new cabin. What a pain in the butt having to haul in and out essentials every trip. Hope you reported it to RCMP. Sooner or later they will be caught and chances are that RCMP might have a pretty good idea of who did it if they are locals.
Is it possible to enlist a local resident to regularly check your cabin and perhaps record lic. #s of vehicles that are seen near it?

Reading these threads boil the blood a bit. When I get my line in the future I will be taking the welder and will have to build fort Knox. People must think there are millions of gold bullion in a lonely trapper cabin. Sorry nube.

On the lighter side of things, several years back, I had my outhouse removed. Not only once but after I got it back, they came for it again the next year...I could have written a book on that entire saga, really quite humorous --- NOW

Seems like it's cheaper to move a insulated sea can in and use it for a cabin. Next thing you know guys start packing zip cuts and torches in.

Sorry to hear about these scum. I'm not a trapper but I miss the days of coming across a cabin in the middle of nowhere and reading a sign along the lines of "go ahead and use it if you absolutely need to just use respect."

I did spend one night in an unlocked trappers cabin one time many years go when my snowmobile broke down and you can be sure I cut wood in the morning and even replaced the can of alpha-getti I ate. It's sad to hear about the lack of respect some people have for others hard work.
