Question Why are season dates so different between Wmu's?

Had a question asked to me that I need help answering. Between the Wmu's in AB, some are 3 month rifle ie:the 500's and others 200s are one month November season. The fact that you only get 1 tag for any species or draw it shouldn't matter if you shoot it in sept, oct or nov!

Game #'s determine length of season as well as the resident population of people.

A 3 month season may work in the peace country but not in the 200 series WMUs.

Density of people population. Also that high powered rifles, swathers, combines, and tractors are not a good mix.

That's funny cause I just got back from Wmu 521 and out in the bush never saw another hunter left on sat evening just before dark after legal time and out on roads camps set up all over and road warriors were all over! As far as agriculture goes I'm pretty sure that the cultivated area in some of the 500's is close to what we got in some of the 200's...IMO...a nd as far as animal #s you only get one tag so what's the difference when you shoot it

The difference would be in the success rates of hunters. With equal hunting pressure longer seasons would mean more tags filled. In General the 200s have higher hunting pressure than the 500s. That is why the longer seasons.
Remember they issue more tags than the targeted harvest and factor in success rates.
