And there is a reason so many don't want to work, the incentive of having a better life has been removed for a lot of people. They number they were floating around for universal basic income was $2000 per month, that's $4000 for a couple, presumably tax free? Now ask yourself how much a full time minimum wage worker takes home per month, minus work expenses like parking, clothing, taxes, vehicle insurance, fuel AND what wins the $2,000 a month for going fishing everyday or working for a living?

IF UBI comes to pass there will be a lot of job openings in minimum wage postitions.
It’s actually cyclical and leads to further inflation. The lieberals know this, but there are stupid people out there that are willfully blind. UBI, min wage goes up because nobody wants to work anymore, everything else goes up as a result, rinse & repeat. The only “winners” are those that “administer the scam” aka lieberals themselves. UBI isn’t a winning idea though otherwise, don’t kid yourself, it’d be done already.

They'll get 4 more years, I don't believe the polls. One small cheque for some nonsense and our great leader will once again have the idiot masses in his pocket.

And of course UBI will not be universal. You think they're gonna give people making 6 figures an extra $2K per month tax free? It'll be pegged to income. Something like anyone makign under $40K per year gets full UBI, $41 to $60K gets 80% of it, $61K - $80K gets 50% and over $80K gets nothing but the privilege of higher taxes to pay for the UBI.

The only way I'd support UBI is if it was truly universal as in every single person over the age of 18 in Canada gets it no matter their current income.

If this ever came to fruition, they best ensure that veterans and seniors receive at minimum the same amount of money.

Default An other minority government?

If that's what Canadians vote for and the NDs hold the balance, they can support the Libs of the PCs guess what party tey will support?

As far as the present level of immigration is concerned, it is partly due to the Boomer generation timing out and needing pensions to live on. As Canada is a "pay as you go system" you always need new people at the bottom of the age range to pay into the fund.

If it is any consulation the negative things you read about immigrants have been said about every wave that we have had, starting in my family when "the Irish need not apply" used to appear in Canadian newspapers at the turn of the century. So as I see it, if you come here, work hard, pay your taxes, get along with your neighbours, and stay 2 winters, you are one of us, and welcome!

As far as a Guaranteed minimum income is concerned, I believe that it means that if you make more than the set number, you get nothing. If you make less than the set number, you get the difference between your wage and that number, if you don't work at all, you get the full amount. For example, lets say the number is $30k. So a university student gets $30k ,an unemployed housewife gets $30k, a new immigrant gets $30k, an addict living in the street gets the full $30k, the drug dealer or pimp or gang member that shows no taxable income, gets $30k. The person doing a part time job that makes $30k to supplement his income gets nothing. The minumum wage earner that makes $40k, gets nothing. Everyone that makes more than $30k after exemptions, gets the pleasure of paying for it all. And of course this extra money makes it virtually impossible to fill part time minimum wage positions, because why would the people making $30k or less work, if they can make the same or more money doing nothing?

It is designed to be a society buster.

Of course it is, it takes away some of the the incentive to work, and earn a living, and it narrows the gap between the lower class, and the middle class, the goal being to eliminate the middle class.

Look across this world and there is many countries displaying they are sick of a similar style of leadership we have coming from our Turd here in Canada

There seems to be a similar trend here in Canada let’s hope it holds true come election time

Yup. I'm watching the farmer protests in Germany with interest.
