After reading this, I decided to pass. Looks like they didn’t fix the “marlin jam” issue in the 95

It is interesting I have had 4 marlins in my time. Jm GG in 444, Jm 336 in 30-30, a remlin 1895 22" and a reminder dark both in 45-70.. and numerous friends have marlins of various ages/ calibers.. I have never experienced a marlin jam...nor have any of my friends....I know they do happen. But it seems like something that plagues only certain guns??? I have three close shooting buddies with new Ruger SBLs none of them have had a hiccup...but then guys like Ford experience issues that would very much put enough doubt in my mind that I couldn't trust my life to it in a real bad situation with a big bear.... my dark however has had over 1k rounds through it and never even a stumble. As for the new trapper...if you want one get one..run it hard and cross your fingers that you don't get one of the lemons that jam....always remember to run the lever hard though...don't baby them.

The 3rd guy hasn’t had any issues but replaced his extractor as a precaution. I will send it back to ruger until they start charging me then like a vehicle I’ll find someone local that knows what they’re doing to work on it and start replacing parts with Wild West or Ranger point precision. Sucks!
This post, from a guy that does big bear encounters for a living, pretty much ended my desire for one. It’s not just him either, it’s all over the Marlin forum.

Still love Marlin levers. Have owned 3. Fairly sure my RM was a lemon. Replaced the carrier twice under warranty and I sent it down the road 2 weeks ago. Gunna replace it with an A300 Ultima patrol. I’d pick up a JM 45/70 in the future if one came my way but a hard no on the RM ones for this guys intended purpose. Gun ran fine with 300gr low recoil but you out full power loads in and it was not happy!

Default Marlin 336

I've had mine for 35 years. It's a 1975 model 30-30. Bought it used in 1989. Neve had a hiccup, not a jam, not a feed or extract issue, nothing. I have shot deer and bears with it, coyotes and pigs. Come to think of it probably have not ran a bore brush through it, sheesh I can't remember when. I use it when I'm bush hunting, or under 150 yard shots. I never think of it, I pull the trigger and it has always gone bang. I guess they were made better back then.

Fellas

You all seem to not be answering the original question

We are not debating past history

We are trying to find out if the new Ruger made marlin trapper is good or not… please focus and try not hijack the thread with all your past history. No one really cares

You asked for thoughts. People have given you them based on experiences of the current ruger made version of the 1895s. With a maker that had had its ups n downs through MULTIPLE owners it only makes sense your going to get answers about the quality from folks experience. My experience with one of the new 1895s was not good but it wouldn’t turn me off of a jm 1895 just a remlin and the new ruger for a few more years. Take it or leave it.
