Dad and i hunted 166 last year for moose and it was the same thing there as far as numbers go.pretty sad compared to what it once was for big bulls but thats what handing out too many tags does to trophy quility/overall population...wont be returning.

Zone 230 is the same, I live here and biggest bull I have seen might go 38” wide and numbers are definitely down. 98 bull and 98 cows given out this year from what I saw will decimate the remaining numbers.

Sounds like a cash grab for the government . Selling moose tags in an area that have no moose .Lol
You really have to do your own scouting before applying for a tag in an area you are going to hunt in . I always find scouting an area the year before while doing a deer hunt works the best .

Yaa its such a nice area, its really to bad.I think if your a good hunter and willing to walk you will still get a moose but if your after a trophy bull it has gone to pot and aint worth it in 166 anymore.

Dad shot a 3.5 year old bull on opening day last fall and some guys who hunted there all fall told us it was the biggest they saw that year and it was a little 36"er

I had the same experience in 166 last year. The year before buddy got a decent one and said they'd seen a better one the day before but couldn't make a stalk happen. I pulled my tag and could barely find a bull until the last weekend of the season and it was just a freezer filler. I was happy to have atleast had something to show for my efforts...lol

I counted 9 moose on the river flats below my farm today in 158. More moose than deer
