Default Looking for info about woodland caribou

I know nothing about woodland caribou and I hate that. When on the land I don't know what sign to look for, I don't know what vegetation they prefer, behavior change with season, nothing.

Does anyone know some good online references or books I can get to learn about them?

Thanks

Try to get some back issues of Alberta Outdoor magazines. There have been many articles written by biologists, trappers etc that are good source of info. Also Alberta Fish and Wildlife have some good publications on Woodland caribou. Lastly if you find the biggest moose track you have ever seen it is a caribou track.

I have a friend working for CNRL in conjunction with the u of a on a woodland caribou study... Im sure there are plenty of documents and academic papers outlining habitat and food sources. What i do know is that they are quite dependent on a type of lichen known as reindeer lichen Cladina midis I believe is the scientific name. There is currently a lot of research surrounding linear disturbance and how it affects the ability for woodland caribou to evade predation in Alberta's north east which is of course being havily developped by oil and gas exploration.
